Maharani Zaika

You can find us on M G Marg in Allahabad, not far from the Medical Chauraha. We called it Maharani Zaika because we wanted to focus on the taste of the food we cook. It is a small place but we put a lot of work into the kitchen every day. The area near the medical crossing is always busy with students and people visiting the hospital, so we stay on our toes. We don't have any big fancy signs or a lot of staff. It is mostly just us and a few helpers making sure the food is hot and ready. The menu has a lot of traditional dishes that we grew up eating. We buy our spices locally and grind them ourselves when we have the time. It makes a difference in how things turn out. The seating is basic and clean. We didn't want a place that felt too stiff or formal. It's the kind of spot where you can come in your old clothes and just enjoy a meal. We have some regulars who come in every day for their lunch. We know their names and what they like to eat. It is hard work staying open all day but we like being part of the community here.
