Guru Kripa Restaurant

We are located at 200 Motilal Nehru Road, which is right in the Katra area of Allahabad. It’s a very famous spot because we are directly opposite Anand Bhawan. You see tourists from all over the country getting off buses to see the old Nehru house. It makes the street very lively. Katra itself is a big market, so there are always students from the university nearby looking for a bite to eat. Our restaurant has been here for years, and it’s seen a lot of history. The building is old, with high ceilings that help a bit when the Allahabad summer hits forty-five degrees. We have fans going at full speed, but it’s still hot. We serve a lot of people every day, from families visiting the sights to local shop owners taking their break. The noise from the street—horns honking and people shouting—is something you just get used to. We don't have a manager in a suit or anything; it’s just us in our regular clothes doing the work. Sometimes we run out of things on the menu and have to tell people to wait while we get more from the market. It’s not perfect, but it’s real. We close up late after the last of the crowds from Anand Bhawan have gone home. Then we clean up and get ready to do it all again tomorrow. It is just the way things are in this part of Colonganj Katra.
