Siru Bari Farmers Producer Company Limited is located up in Alipurduar, specifically at Purba Kathalbari. We use Manik Sarkar’s place as our main point of contact. This part of Jalpaiguri is beautiful but the work is tough. We are a group of farmers who decided it was time to join forces. Instead of everyone struggling on their own, we formed this company to handle the buying and selling together. It’s a bit of a trek to get out here, but for us, it’s just home. The office is pretty basic with just the essentials. We spend a lot of time discussing seed quality and where to sell the next harvest. Manik is usually around to handle the visitors. We don't have a receptionist or anything like that. If the phone rings, whoever is closest picks it up. We are just regular people who know the soil. Sometimes we have meetings under the shade of a tree if the office gets too stuffy. It’s a very local way of doing things, but it works for us. We don't care much for corporate titles or big presentations. We just want to make sure the families here can keep farming and making enough to get by. It is a slow process to build something like this, but we are taking it one day at a time. The Jogendranagar area knows us well and that is what matters most.
