Down here in Ballal Guritotopara, we started Jaldapara Farmers Producer Company Limited to stay organized. It’s a local spot where Sib Kumar Rai lives, and that’s where we handle the paperwork and the talking. Farming in this part of the country is about knowing the dirt and the seasons. We aren't some distant company with suits. We are just farmers who realized that working as one group makes more sense than trying to do everything alone. The land around Jaldapara is what we know. Most days you can find us checking on the crops or dealing with the local markets. It’s a simple setup. We don't have marketing teams or anything. We just talk over tea and decide what needs to be planted next. There are a lot of challenges with the water and the insects, but we manage. Sib Kumar Rai’s place is usually where someone is sitting and waiting to talk about the next batch of produce. We keep our tools ready and our hands dirty. It’s just the way life goes here. We aren't looking to change the world, just trying to keep our farms running and the produce moving. It's a lot of work but it’s our work.
