Udipi Jaya Restaurant

We are based in Prabha Palace at Vasant Chowk in the Lal Darwaja area. It is right near the Maharashtra Bank. If you know Ahmedabad, you know that Lal Darwaja is one of the most crowded places you can find. There are people everywhere, shopping for clothes and electronics. Our restaurant is tucked away in this busy corner. We get a lot of shoppers who are tired and just need to sit down for thirty minutes. The space is a bit cramped, especially when we have the afternoon rush. We have these old-fashioned benches and tables that are shoved close together. You might end up sitting right next to someone you don't know, but that’s just part of the experience here. The kitchen is right at the back and you can hear the clinking of the plates and the shouting of orders all day long. We don't have air conditioning, just some wall fans that move the air around. It gets quite warm in the summer, but people still come in. Our cooks have been with us for a long time and they don't like it when we try to change anything. We keep the menu simple because that’s what we know how to do. We don't have a fancy sign or any decorations on the walls. It’s just a place to eat. We open up in the morning and close when the market shuts down at night. It’s a loud, busy, and honest place to be.
