Taajeer Creation

The shop is tucked away in the lanes of Dariapur near Saiyed Kabir Dehla. It’s a busy part of town and Jorden Road is always packed with people and rickshaws. At Taajeer Creation, we work in a small space that gets quite warm during the summer months. There’s always the sound of neighbors talking outside and the smell of food from the nearby Punjabi Hakim Gali. I spend my days sitting on a low stool working on various pieces of clothing. The walls are a bit stained from years of use and the ceiling fan wobbles whenever it’s on the high setting. We have piles of fabric in every corner and sometimes it’s hard to find the specific color we need. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the boxes and half-finished work lying around. We don’t really have any fancy signs or a big window display like the shops in the newer parts of Ahmedabad. Most people find us through word of mouth or because they live just a few doors down. I usually stay late into the evening finishing up orders while the street outside finally starts to quiet down. The floor is made of old stone and it’s a bit uneven in places. It’s just a small local spot where we try to keep up with the daily grind. Some days the work is slow and I just sit by the door to get some fresh air.
