Swayam Kids

Swayam Kids is tucked away in a little lane in Bodakdev, right near the Atithi Restaurant. If you know the Shyamal area, you know it can get pretty busy with traffic, but our spot in Devendra Park Society is a lot quieter. It’s basically a house that we’ve turned into a space for the kids to spend their time. We spend a lot of our mornings setting out mats and making sure the toys are clean before the first group arrives. It’s not a big corporate center, just a local place where the neighborhood families bring their little ones. You can hear the kids laughing or sometimes crying from the street, but mostly it’s just the sound of play. We have to be careful with the parking because the lane is narrow, and the neighbors get a bit annoyed if cars block their gates. Inside, the walls are covered with drawings and bits of paper from various activities we've done over the weeks. It’s a bit cluttered, but that’s what happens when you have kids running around all day. We spend a lot of time just cleaning up spills and making sure everyone has their snacks at the right time. There’s a small outdoor area where they can get some fresh air, though we keep them inside when it’s too hot. It feels more like a home than a school, which is fine by us. We just focus on keeping them safe and occupied until their parents come back for them.
