Spice Lounge

Spice Lounge is out here on the Sarkhej Bavla Highway, specifically in the Sur Mount Complex. We are right opposite the Iskcon Temple, so it’s a very easy place to find if you’re driving through this part of Ahmedabad. Being on the highway means we see a lot of different faces. Some people are just passing through on their way to another city, and others live in the apartments nearby. It’s a bit different from a city center restaurant because the vibe changes depending on the time of day. In the evenings, when the temple across the road is busy, we get a lot of families. The space is fairly large, which is good because we don't like people feeling cramped. We have a crew of about six people in the kitchen and a few more out front. We aren't trying to win any awards here. We just want to serve food that doesn't cost a fortune. The highway noise can be a bit much sometimes, but you get used to it after a week or two. We spend our mornings cleaning the windows and making sure the supplies arrived from the market on time. Sometimes the truck is late and we have to scramble. It’s just the daily reality of running a place in Sur Mount Complex. We don’t have a big mission statement. We just open the doors and do our best until it's time to lock up.
