I have been coming to 181 in the New Cloth Market every morning for years now. It is right opposite Raipur Gate, so the traffic is always there, no matter what time it is. Shaswat Textiles Pvt. Ltd. is just our everyday reality. We spend most of our time moving rolls of cloth and checking long lists. The market starts waking up around ten and it doesn’t stop until late in the evening. You see the same faces every day, from the tea sellers to the guys pushing the heavy handcarts. Our space isn't huge, but it is full of fabric from floor to ceiling. Sometimes it gets a bit dusty when the wind blows through the gate, but that is just how it is here. We do not really do fancy things or have a big office. We just handle the textiles and talk to the people who come by looking for stock. It is loud, it is crowded, and there is always someone shouting for a truck to move. My desk is tucked in the corner behind some boxes. It has been there forever. We know the neighbors well and we often share news over a quick break. The work is mostly about keeping track of what comes in and what goes out. Some days are slower than others, especially when it rains and the market gets muddy. But usually, it is just one job after another. We like the location because it is central, even if parking is a nightmare. (251 words)
