We are located in the basement at Ocean Park, near Nehru Nagar on Satellite Road. It is a bit of a different setup being in a basement, especially when we have to move those heavy granite slabs in and out. We use a lot of water for the cutting and polishing, so the floor is almost always a bit damp and slippery. You have to be careful when you walk around. The air is often thick with the smell of wet stone. Satellite Road is always packed with people and cars, so getting the big delivery trucks parked near the entrance is a real struggle every single time. We have a small display area where we keep samples of the different marbles, but most of the space is taken up by the big pieces leaning against the walls. It is dark and cool down here, which is a nice change from the heat outside, but the noise of the saws echoes quite a bit. There are four of us who handle the heavy lifting and the cutting. We don't really have a fancy showroom. It's more of a working shop where people can come and see the actual stone before it's cut. We just do our work, talk to the customers who wander in, and try to keep the dust under control as much as possible. It is hard physical work but it keeps us busy. Sometimes the stairs get blocked with crates, so we have to clear them out before we leave for the day.
