Arkan Marble

Arkan Marble sits right near the Royal Akbar Tower in the Raj Pipe Compound. Sarkhej Road is always packed with traffic, so you have to be careful when you're turning into the yard. Juhapura is a lively area and we have been part of it for a while. Our yard is full of heavy slabs of stone and there is white dust on almost everything. We spend our hours cutting, lifting, and loading marble onto trucks. It is heavy work and your back definitely feels it by the time evening rolls around. We don't have a polished showroom with lights and mirrors. It is just the stone sitting out where you can see it in the natural light. Sometimes people come in with measurements on a scrap of paper and we try to find something that fits. The guys working the saws have been doing this for a long time. It gets noisy when the water and blades are running, but that's just the sound of the shop. We keep our coffee pot going in the small shack we use as an office. There isn't any corporate talk here. We just talk about the stone and how much it weighs. The compound gets a bit muddy when it rains, which makes moving the marble even harder. We just take it one slab at a time and try to keep things moving without any big promises. It is a tough but fair job.
