If you walk around the Karmachari Shopping Centre in Ghatlodia, you will find us at shop number nine. We are right beside the four cross road which is always a bit chaotic with traffic. We handle a mix of things here, mostly focusing on the mattresses and the usual mandap stuff. It started with just a few items but the shop got filled up pretty quickly. People in the colony know where we are because we’ve been here for a good amount of time. The mattresses take up a lot of space, so the shop often feels a bit cramped, especially when we get new stock in. We spend a lot of time just moving things around to find what someone needs. It’s a local spot, nothing too fancy about it. We see a lot of the same faces every week from the nearby apartments. Sometimes they need extra bedding for guests, other times they are planning a small function at home and need some decorations. Working at the Karmachari Four Cross Road means there is never a quiet moment. We usually open up early and stay until the evening rush dies down. It is a family thing, really. We don't have a big team, just a few of us making sure orders get delivered and the shop stays open. It’s practical work. We just try to keep things simple and help out the neighbors when they need it. The shop has its own smell of new fabric and foam which we have grown to quite like.
