We’ve been situated near the Astodiya Gate in Ahmedabad for quite some time now. Nurani Restaurant is right on the edge of the old city, near Geeta Mandir Road. It’s a very busy part of 380001, with buses and rickshaws going past all day long. The building is older, and you can feel the history of Astodia around us. Inside, it’s usually humming with the sound of people talking and the kitchen staff working hard over the pots and pans. We aren't a modern cafe with air conditioning and soft music, we’re a traditional spot where you come to eat and then get on with your day. The tables are close together because space is tight in this part of town. We’ve got a lot of regulars who have been coming here for years, some even for decades. It gets really crowded during the festival seasons when everyone is out on the streets in Ahmedabad. The heat from the tandoors and the stoves makes the kitchen a tough place to be in the summer, but we’re used to it after all this time. We don't have a website or a big marketing team to help us out. We just open the doors every morning and start cooking. If you’re near the gate, you’ll probably see our old sign hanging there. It’s just a local restaurant doing things the old-fashioned way without much fuss. We just keep our heads down and do the work, making sure the food is ready when people come.
