Mehra Tea Company

We are tucked away in Bazar Bikanerian, inside Katra Ahluwalia. The address is 2595/3. If you come looking for us, you’ll likely smell the tea before you see the door. The bazar is very narrow, and it’s always full of people carrying sacks or pushing carts. Our place is filled with large bags of different tea leaves piled up against the walls. It’s a dusty kind of place, but it’s the good kind of dust from the dried leaves. We spend most of our time grading the tea and weighing it out for orders. There’s a small desk in the corner where we keep the accounts, but mostly we are on our feet. The light in the shop is a bit dim, but we know the colors and textures of the tea by heart anyway. We’ve been in this part of Amritsar for generations, and the routine hasn't changed much. We drink a lot of tea ourselves, usually testing out the new batches that come in. Neighbors drop by to chat, and we share news about the market prices. It’s a community feel here in the Katra. We don’t have any fancy packaging or big advertisements. We just rely on the fact that people know our name and know where we sit in the bazar. It’s honest work, and the smell of the tea makes the long hours feel a bit shorter. We just take it day by day.
