Lalchand & Sons

Sakar Bazar is a busy place and Sakar Bazar is where we’ve stayed. Lalchand & Sons is at number 16 in Rangwala Market. If you walk through here you’ll see plenty of shops that look just like ours but we’ve got our own way of doing things. It’s a traditional trading spot. We deal with a lot of heavy lifting and moving crates around. My grandfather started this and the name hasn't changed since. The market is always moving and you have to keep up or you get left behind. We don't have a website or any of that fancy stuff really. People just know where we are. We have some regular customers who have been coming to us for decades and now their kids come too. It’s about trust more than anything else in a place like Sakar Bazar. We spend our days checking inventory and talking to suppliers. It’s not glamorous work. Sometimes the rain leaks in a bit or the electricity goes out and we have to work by candlelight. That’s just the reality of an old market building. We drink a lot of tea and handle a lot of paperwork by hand. It’s a bit old-fashioned but it’s a solid way to make a living. We just keep our heads down and make sure the orders are right for everyone who stops by.
