Kalapi Restaurant

Our place, Kalapi Restaurant, sits right on Advance Cinema Road in the Lal Darwaja area. It’s a busy part of Ahmedabad, usually full of people going to the Electricity House or heading towards the Bhadra side. We are tucked behind the Electricity House, so it can be a little tricky to find if you aren't looking, but most locals know where we are. The building is old, like most things around here, and it has that specific smell of the city. We don't spend much on advertising or anything like that because the neighborhood keeps us busy enough. In the afternoons, you can hear the sounds of the street coming through the windows. The staff is mostly just a few guys who have been here a long time. We spend our time prepping vegetables and making sure there are enough napkins on the tables. It’s a very plain setup inside with just the basic stuff you need to eat a meal. People come in after their shopping or work and just want a quiet corner for thirty minutes. We aren't trying to be anything special or modern. It's just a local spot in Ahmedabad where you can get some food and move on with your day. The traffic at Lal Darwaja is always a mess, but once you step inside, it's a bit more relaxed. We just do what we do every day without much change or worry about the outside world.
