If you’re driving through Bapunagar near Krishna Nagar, you’ve probably seen us. We are right opposite India Colony and not too far from the Union Bank. Jalaram Ceramics has been around this corner for quite some time. The shop is filled with stacks of tiles and ceramic pieces. It’s a bit crowded inside because we try to keep a lot of variety on hand. You have to watch your step so you don’t trip over a box of floor tiles. We get all sorts of people coming in—neighbors fixing a leaky bathroom or guys building a whole new house. We show them the different colors and finishes. Some are glossy, some are matte. We don't do much talking, we just let people look at the samples. The street outside is always noisy with rickshaws and people going to the bank. Sometimes we sit on the stools out front when it's quiet. We handle the loading ourselves most of the time. It’s dusty work, and my hands are always a bit rough from moving the ceramic plates and tiles around. We keep a record of what's in the godown so we don't run out. It’s just a regular local shop where we know half the people who walk through the door by their first name. We try to keep things straightforward. If we have it, we tell you. If we don’t, we tell you when it’s coming. No point in making things sound bigger than they are.
