A One Thread

You can find us tucked away in the Colgate Estate, right behind the Chakudiya Mahadev temple in Rakhial. It’s No. 25 and it’s usually quite a noisy area with all the different businesses running at once. We handle thread, and honestly, there are so many types and colors that it’s a full-time job just keeping the inventory straight. Our space is practical for what we do. We aren't worried about being polished because thread is a messy business once you start winding and packing it. You’ll see cardboard boxes everywhere and cones of thread stacked up to the ceiling in some parts. It feels a bit like a maze sometimes. Being behind the temple means we hear the bells and the prayers while we work, which is a nice break from the industrial sounds of the estate. We don't spend money on advertising or anything like that. Most people find us because they know where we are or someone told them. We just sit at our desks or stand by the packing area and get through the list of things to do. The dust from the cotton can get a bit much on hot days when the fans are blowing hard. We just keep the water bottles full and stay focused on the orders that need to go out by the evening. It’s just how we operate day in and day out and we’ve gotten quite used to the rhythm of the estate.
