Chandni Marble And Granite

If you go down to Gota Chowkdi and look for Shop No. 490 in Gota Gam, that is where we are. This place is usually covered in a thin layer of white dust because of all the stone. We have piles of marble and granite slabs leaning against the walls. Some are grey and others have those dark veins running through them. It is heavy work moving these things around. We use the rollers and sometimes it takes three people just to shift one big piece so a customer can see the pattern. The sun hits the yard pretty hard in the afternoons. People come by when they are building a new house or maybe just fixing up a kitchen. They walk around and touch the surfaces, trying to decide what looks right. We don't say much, just let them look. The trucks come in with new loads from the quarries and that is always a noisy hour. We have to check for cracks or bad spots in the stone. It's a lot of standing around and waiting, then suddenly it's very busy. The edges of the granite can be sharp so you have to be careful. We have been in Gota for a while now and seen the area change a lot. More buildings are going up every day. We just keep doing our thing with the stone and the saws. It’s not an easy job but it’s what we do.
