Borana Marbles

Our yard is right on Gota Road, just off the S G Highway. If you’re passing the Silver Oak Club, we’re right across from there in Gota Village. It’s a big open space where we keep all the marble slabs. It’s quite a heavy job, moving these stones around with the crane and the trolleys. We spend most of our day outside, so we’re used to the sun and the dust. People come by looking for flooring or counters, and we just walk them through the rows of stone. Every piece of marble is a bit different, so it takes time for people to pick what they want. We don't have a fancy air-conditioned office, just a small cabin where we handle the paperwork and have some water. It can get pretty noisy when we’re cutting or loading a truck. We’ve been here for a good while and have seen the highway get much busier over the years. We mostly just keep to ourselves and focus on keeping the stock organized. It’s hard to keep everything perfectly clean when you’re dealing with natural stone, but we try. Sometimes the trucks arrive late at night, so someone is usually around. We don't do much advertising; people just see the slabs from the road and stop in. It’s a simple, honest way to make a living, selling stone that people use to build their homes. It's tough work but rewarding when you see a finished house.
