Ankur Marble

If you head down Gota Road and look across from the Khodiyar Temple, you’ll find Ankur Marble right there at Gota Chokdi. We have been sitting in this exact spot for a while now, dealing with all kinds of marble slabs. The yard is usually full of big white and grey stones leaning against the metal frames. It’s a noisy part of town with all the traffic passing by, but we have gotten used to it by now. Most of our day involves showing people the different patterns and veins in the stone. No two pieces are ever really the same, which is what makes the work interesting. We do a lot of loading and unloading, and the crane gets a lot of use every day. Sometimes the dust from the polishing gets everywhere, but that’s just how it is when you work with stone. We aren't some high-end gallery; it’s just a working marble yard where things get moved around and measured. People come from all over this side of town because they know we are right by the temple. We try to keep things organized, but when a big shipment comes in, it can look a bit messy for a day or two. It’s just me and a couple of guys making sure the slabs get to the right houses in one piece. We like being part of the Gota community and seeing the buildings go up using our stone. It’s basic work that we do every day.
