Ambica Engineers

If you head down to Viratnagar in Odhav, you'll find us in the Kailash Industrial Estate. We are in Part-4, right across from the Sugyan Vidhya Vihar School. It’s an interesting spot because you hear the school bell ringing while we’re working on machines at Ambica Engineers. Our unit is number 16/4. It’s a busy place with a lot of metal scraps and the smell of oil in the air. We do a lot of engineering work, mostly fixing parts or making new ones for local factories. My hands are usually covered in grease by noon. We have a few lathes and a milling machine that have been with us since we started. They aren't the newest models, but they work just fine if you know how to handle them. The roof gets a bit leaky when it rains heavy in Ahmedabad, so we have to move the equipment around sometimes. We don't have a fancy reception area or a secretary. If someone wants to talk to us, they usually just walk into the workshop and shout over the noise of the machines. It’s a straightforward way of doing business. We have a small crew of guys from the neighborhood who really know their stuff. We don't put out brochures or anything like that. Most of our work comes from people knowing we can get things done without making a big deal out of it. It’s hard work, but it’s ours. Sometimes we work on Saturdays if there is a big job to finish.
