Om Sweet Shop

We have been here at Hari Nagar 70 for quite a while now. Most people around here know exactly where we are. Every morning starts the same way for us. We open up the heavy iron shutters, and the smell of sugar syrup and frying oil starts filling the air before the sun is even fully up. It’s a busy spot on this street. People stop by on their way to work to grab a quick snack or maybe some sweets for their families. We don’t do anything fancy. It’s just us in the back making the usual stuff like jalebis and samosas. Sometimes it gets very crowded and we have to tell people to wait a bit in line, but that’s just how it is. The shop isn't very big at all, but we try to keep it clean. We know a lot of the customers by their names because they have been coming here since they were kids. Now they bring their own children to get a piece of barfi. It’s nice to see the neighborhood change while we stay mostly the same. We handle the dough and the milk ourselves every day. Nothing is automated. You can hear the sounds of the street and the horns outside all day long. Sometimes the traffic on the road gets really loud and dusty, but we are used to it by now. We just focus on getting the orders right. It’s hard work, standing on our feet all day near the hot stoves. We’ve had the same wooden counters for many years. Anyway, if you’re walking past Hari Nagar 70, you’ll see us there, usually busy with the deep fryer.
