Maharani Of India

Our unit is tucked away in Phase II of the Mayapuri Industrial Area. If you look for C-154, you will find us there among all the other workshops and warehouses. It is a busy part of town with a lot of trucks moving in and out all day long. The noise of machinery is pretty much constant around here. We started Maharani Of India without much of a plan, just a need to work and a small space to do it in. Inside, it’s mostly just work tables and stacks of materials. We don't have a receptionist or a waiting room because we are usually too busy in the back. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait a bit, but that's just how things are in this area. We drink a lot of chai to keep going through the long shifts. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but we haven't found the time to do it yet. Most of the people working here have been with us for years. We know each other’s families and share lunch sometimes. It’s a grounded kind of life. We focus on the orders we have and try to get them finished by the time the transport arrives. No one here wears a suit. We wear clothes that we don't mind getting a bit dirty. It is practical work for practical people. That is really all there is to it at our spot in Mayapuri.
