Shobhai Organic Farmer Producer Companylimited is based in Washim. We work out of the UDP area, care of Ambadas Shivram Borkar. It’s a local setup where we focus on organic stuff. We don’t use those heavy chemicals. It makes the work harder but the soil feels better for it. Ambadas has been here a long time and knows the land well. The office is basically just a room where we keep our books. Washim is a good place for this kind of work. We have a small group of farmers who contribute. We don’t have a marketing team or anyone to write fancy letters. We just write down what we harvest and where it goes. We mostly talk to each other in person or over the phone. It's a simple way of doing things. We try to keep the costs down so the farmers get more of the money. It’s tough to compete with the big guys, but we manage. We’ve had some lean years but we’re still here. Most of us grew up in this area. We know the dirt and the bugs and the way the wind blows. It's home for us and our families.
