You can find us over at Plot No. 33 in the Nagar Parishad Colony. It’s a pretty quiet spot in Karanja Lad where we keep our small office. Krushi Navtejaswini Farmer Producer Company Limited started because a few of us were tired of struggling on our own. Most of the farmers in this part of the region have small plots, and it’s hard to make a living when you're buying seeds in tiny amounts. We decided to pool our money and our tools to see if we could make things a bit easier. It’s not always smooth sailing. There are days when we sit around the office just trying to figure out why the transport didn't show up or how to deal with a sudden drop in market prices. We don't have any polished marketing plans. We just know the land and what it takes to grow things here. Being in Karanja Lad is good because we are close to the main roads, which helps when it's time to move the produce. You’ll usually see a couple of us hanging around the plot, drinking tea and discussing the rain clouds. We handle whatever is in season, from cotton to pulses. It’s just normal life for us. We aren't trying to do anything grand. We just want to make sure our families can keep farming for another generation without going into too much debt.
