Shri Somanatheshwara Farmers Producer Company Limited

Our group is based in Aski, which is in the Sindgi Taluk of Vijapur. It’s a dry area but we make the most of it. Shri Somanatheshwara Farmers Producer Company Limited is what we call our collective. We meet up in a small building that we’ve used for years. It’s got a tin roof that makes a lot of noise when it rains, but we don’t mind. We spend our time figuring out how to get our crops to the market without spending too much on transport. There are about ten of us who are regularly in the office, but many more farmers come in and out. We don’t have any fancy computers, just a couple of old desks and some ledgers. Sometimes the dust from the road blows in and we have to sweep it out. We talk a lot about the water levels and which crops are going to do well this year. It’s a very local thing, and we don’t really care about being a big corporation. We just want to make sure the families in Aski have a steady way to sell what they grow. Sometimes we stay late to finish the accounts, but usually, we head home once the sun goes down. It’s a quiet life, focused on the soil and the seasons. We just do our best with what the land gives us and help each other out.
