Our small office is at House Number 42, quite close to the Sharadha School in Muddebihal. You can often hear the kids playing during our meetings. We are a collection of farmers who wanted to unite under one name. We do not have a big mission statement written on the wall. We just want to make sure we can sell our harvests without losing too much money to the middleman. It is a very local operation. Most of us walk to the office from our homes. We talk about the rain, the soil, and the prices of fertilizers. It is not a fancy life, but it is ours. We try to keep things as honest as possible. If the crop is bad, we say it is bad and figure out what to do next. Having the school nearby reminds us why we are doing this—to make sure there is a future for the families here. We do not use much technology, just a bit of help with the paperwork when we need it. The focus is always on the land. We have all been farming since we were young, so we understand the rhythms of the seasons. It is hard work and the sun is hot, but we find a way to get through it together. That is really all there is to it. We keep our boots by the door and our minds on the crops.
