About Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools – Education in Vellore
Out here in Swami Brahmananda Saraswathi Nagar, near the Sipcot area, the school sits in a spot that feels quite separate from the noise of the factories. Maharishi Vidya Mandir has been a fixture here for some time. The grounds are fairly large, and we have a lot of walking to do between the different blocks. The wind picks up quite a bit in the afternoons, blowing through the corridors. We have rows of classrooms with those old-fashioned wooden desks that have names carved into them by students from years ago. The hallways are usually filled with the sound of teachers lecturing or the shuffle of feet during the class change. We have a big focus on just getting through the syllabus without too much distraction. The canteen area is where everyone gathers for lunch, and it smells like sambar and rice every day around noon. It is a practical place. We don't spend much on decorations or flashy signs. Most of our effort goes into keeping the place running and making sure the benches are repaired when they break. The commute out to Sipcot can be long for some of the staff, but we are used to it by now. It is a steady rhythm of bells, assembly lines, and homework. We just try to provide a decent place for the students to sit and study while they are away from home. We keep the gates locked during school hours for safety.
