Our place is over at Plot No. 64 in the GIDC Estate in Vapi. It’s right opposite the Best Paper Mills, so you can usually smell the industrial work going on in the air. Phase-1 is a busy area, full of trucks and workers moving back and forth all day. Our workshop is a bit noisy, mostly because of the machinery we use for our electrical components. It’s not the kind of place where you’d want to wear a nice suit. We usually have grease on our hands or dust on our shirts by noon. The floors are concrete and the ceiling is high to keep things a bit cooler, though Vapi gets incredibly hot in the summer. We spend a lot of time checking parts and making sure the assemblies are right. There’s a small office section where the paperwork gets done, but most of us are out on the floor. We’ve been in this spot for a while, and we know the neighbors well. Sometimes we borrow tools from the shop next door or share a tea during the afternoon break. It’s a gritty, hardworking environment. There are no polished slogans on the walls here, just a calendar and maybe a few old photos. We focus on the task at hand and try to make sure everything leaving our plot is up to the standard we’d expect for ourselves. It’s just how things are done in the GIDC.
