Soni Shantilal Gordhandas

Soni Shantilal Gordhandas operates out of Deep Chambers, which is located on Gulmohur Road in Mandvi. Our office is on the first floor. Deep Chambers is one of those buildings that has been around forever. The stairs are made of stone and are worn down in the middle from all the feet that have climbed them over the years. Our space is filled with the smell of old paper and the incense we burn every morning. It is a very traditional atmosphere. We have several heavy steel cupboards where we keep all our important documents. Shantilal has been in this business for a long time, and he prefers the old ways of doing things. We don't have much in the way of modern technology, just what is absolutely necessary. The windows are usually kept open to let in a breeze, though it also lets in the noise of the market nearby. You can hear the vendors calling out their prices all day. It is a vibrant place to work. We have a small wooden stool near the door where people sit while they wait to talk to us. We don't have a formal waiting room. It is all very casual. We have known most of our clients for years and they often drop by just to chat. It is a small part of the local neighborhood. We drink a lot of water from the clay pot because it stays cool even during the hottest months of the year.
