Down in Raopura 1, things are almost always on the move. We do both the decorating and the catering, which means our storage area is a big mess of colorful silk drapes and giant metal cooking pots. It’s a lot to keep track of. One minute I’m talking to a family about the color of the flowers and the next I’m checking if we have enough rice for two hundred people. We’ve been here in Raopura for a long time now. Most people around here just know us as Mayur. Our office is very simple. We have a few old photo albums of weddings we’ve done to show people, but most customers just come to us because they know my family. We don't really do any big advertising. Word of mouth is how we keep the lights on. Some days the wind or rain ruins our outdoor setups and we have to scramble like crazy to fix it all. It’s very stressful, but that’s just how this business goes. My shoes are always covered in dust from being on the sites. We don’t wear fancy clothes, just stuff we don’t mind getting a bit of grease or paint on. Raopura is such a busy area that there’s always noise coming from the street. We like the energy though. When we aren't at an event, we're back here cleaning the equipment or fixing broken lights. It’s a lot of work even when we don't have a party to run.
