Bhumi Decor

Our shop, Bhumi Decor, is at Channi Naka, number 42. It’s a place filled with rolls of fabric and stacks of blinds. When you walk in, you’ll see samples of wallpapers and curtains hanging everywhere. We don’t have a big fancy showroom, just a lot of materials piled up so people can see the colors and feel the textures. The street outside is quite noisy with all the vehicles passing through the naka, so we keep the door shut most of the time. I spend a lot of my day showing different catalogs to people and trying to help them figure out how much cloth they need for their windows. There’s always a bit of lint in the air from the fabrics. We have an old measuring tape that’s seen better days, but it still works fine. It’s a bit messy behind the main counter with all the invoices and fabric snippets scattered around. Sometimes we go out to people’s houses to take measurements, which is a nice break from being in the shop all day. We aren’t decorators with big degrees or anything, we just know what looks okay and how to fit things properly. Most of our customers come from the nearby residential colonies. It’s a steady business and we like the rhythm of it, even when things get a bit disorganized during the busy season. It’s not always easy keeping things clean with the road construction outside, but we manage.
