Maa Jay Ambe Marriage Bureau

We have been running this bureau in Padra for a while now and my desk is always covered in folders and little slips of paper with phone numbers written on them. People come in all day, mostly parents who are worried about their kids getting older and not finding someone. We sit down, have some tea, and look through the photos and biodatas together. It is a slow process and can be quite tiring because everyone has so many requirements. I spend a lot of time listening to people talk about their family history and what kind of person they are looking for. It’s not a high-tech setup here; we mostly rely on our memory and the big physical files we keep on the shelves. Sometimes the fan in the office makes a clicking sound that drives me crazy, but we just ignore it. Padra is a small enough place that we often know the families already, which makes things a bit easier. We don't promise anything magical, we just try to find two families that might get along. There are days when nobody matches and it feels a bit discouraging, but then someone calls to say a meeting went well and it feels worth it again. We just do our best with the information we have and try to be honest with everyone who walks through the door. It is about patience more than anything else in this kind of job.
