Hotel Baba Palace

Hotel Baba Palace is right at 155, opposite the Jagdish Temple in the middle of Udaipur. If you have ever been to Jagdish Chowk, you know how busy and loud it gets with the temple bells, the tourists, and the cows wandering through the narrow streets. Our building is old, which gives it some character, but it also means the stairs are a bit steep and the walls aren't perfectly straight. We have a rooftop area where you can see the temple and part of the city, which is where most people like to hang out. Running a hotel in the old city is a challenge because getting supplies through the tiny lanes is a nightmare. We often have to carry things by hand or on the back of a scooter. The rooms are basic but we keep them as clean as we can. My family and a few helpers run the place, so it feels more like a home than a business most of the time. We don't have a lift, and sometimes the wifi is patchy because of the thick stone walls, but we are honest about that when people check in. It’s a great spot if you want to be right in the center of the action. You will hear the morning prayers from the temple and see the daily life of Udaipur right outside the door. It is noisy and real, just like us.
