Kannika High School

Kannika High School is situated on Melekote Road in the Sadashiva Nagar area of Tumkur. It’s a fairly busy part of town, so there is always movement outside our gates. The school itself is a standard two-story building with a courtyard in the middle. We have been part of this neighborhood for years. Every morning, the street is full of students walking or coming on bicycles. The classrooms have big windows, but it can still get quite warm in the afternoons. We have a set of stairs that the kids are always running up and down, despite us telling them to slow down. Our teachers are mostly local residents who have been with us for a long time. The office is right near the entrance, and it’s usually full of parents asking about fees or attendance. We don't have a lot of fancy landscaping, just a few potted plants and some old trees. The bell we use to change periods is loud enough to be heard across the whole block. In the rainy season, the courtyard gets some puddles, and we have to be careful. We just follow the regular syllabus and try to keep the kids focused on their exams. It’s a typical high school experience without any unnecessary frills. We have a small room for sports equipment and a library that is a bit cramped but has what the students need for their classes. It’s just how things are here.
