P U M School

Our little P U M School sits right on Olayamangalam Road in Kangeyanagaram. It is not a very big place, but we have enough room for the kids who come in from the surrounding houses every morning. The road outside can get a bit dusty when the wind picks up, and we are always sweeping the front step to keep the dirt out of the classrooms. Most of the staff live nearby, so we usually walk or bike in before the first bell rings. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment or high-tech stuff, just the basic chalkboards and wooden benches that have been here for years. You can hear the sounds of the neighborhood all day long, from the tractors passing by to the birds in the trees near the back fence. Sometimes the power goes out for an hour or two, so we just open the windows wider and keep going with the lessons. It is a quiet kind of life here in this part of Kangeyanagaram. We know most of the parents by name because we see them at the market or passing by the gate on their way to work. It is just a regular school doing regular work for the local families. We try to keep the place tidy, though the paint is peeling in a few spots around the windows. It feels like a home because we spend so much time here together every single day of the week.
