Down in Ariyamangalam, specifically in the Industrial Colony at Kamaraj Nagar, you'll find Kauvery Steel & Cement. We have been sitting at this 13/1 spot for quite some time. Dealing with steel and cement is heavy work, as anyone who has done it will tell you. It gets hot under the roof, especially in the afternoons, but we just keep at it. There are lots of other units around us in this colony, so it’s always loud with the sound of machinery and lorries shifting gears. We spend a lot of time unloading bags and moving rebar around. It’s not the kind of job where you stay clean. By the end of the day, there is usually cement dust on everyone's clothes. We don't really have a fancy office with air conditioning. We just have a desk and some chairs where we sit with the drivers and talk about the delivery schedules. Sometimes the rain makes things difficult because you have to cover everything up fast so the cement doesn't get ruined. That’s the main thing we worry about. Kamaraj Nagar is a busy area, and there is always someone needing something for a small repair or a bigger build. We just keep the doors open and do what needs doing. It’s a simple life, really, just moving materials from one place to another and making sure the counts are right.
