Sky Metal

Sky Metal is based at C7 in the Developed Industrial Estate in Thuvakudi. Being in an industrial estate means we are surrounded by other workshops and factories. There is always the sound of welding, grinding, or hammers going off somewhere nearby. Our unit isn't very big, but it fits what we need. We handle metal work, which is hot and tiring most days. The sun hits the roof of the shed and it gets quite warm inside by noon. We don’t have air conditioning or anything fancy like that. Just a few fans that mostly just move the hot air around. Our floors are stained with oil and there are metal shavings in the corners. It’s the kind of place where you have to wear thick boots and be careful where you step. We don’t spend money on glossy brochures. If someone needs metal parts or fabrication, they usually just come by the estate and look for our sign. We talk about the job, look at the sketches, and then get to work. It’s simple. Some days are better than others, depending on how the machines are behaving. We just focus on finishing the pieces and getting them loaded onto the transport trucks. Thuvakudi is a long way from the city center, so we mostly just stick to ourselves and get the work done.
