Everest Metal is situated right in the heart of things at No. 19/51 K. Kovil Street. We’re near the Gandhi Market area in Palakkarai, which means it’s always busy around us. The sounds of the market are part of our daily background. We work with scrap and different types of metal pieces. Our shop isn't very large, but we pack a lot into it. You can usually find us sorting through piles or weighing materials that people bring in on their carts. It’s a bit of a messy job sometimes, but someone has to do it. Being in Palakkarai is handy because people are always moving through the market. We've been at this location for quite some time now. The building is old but it serves its purpose for storing metal and keeping our tools. We don't bother with fancy signs or anything that isn't necessary. The work is about the weight and the type of metal, nothing more. On busy market days, the street gets crowded and it can be a bit of a squeeze to get things in and out through the front door. We know the other shop owners nearby and it feels like a real community. We just open up the doors in the morning and see what the day brings in. It's a solid, local way to make a living. There is always a lot of clinking and clanking going on here.
