We are located right on Tanjore Main Road, very close to Gandhi Market. It is a very busy area, especially with the Maariamman Temple just a short walk away from us. You can usually hear the bells from the temple in the mornings when we first open up the shutters. Our place at number 43 is usually packed full of inventory. Dealing with steel in a crowded market area like this means we are always on our toes. There are always people walking by and scooters zooming past our front entrance. We have a small crew working here. Some of us have been working together for over ten years now. We do not do much marketing because we are always busy with the walk-in customers and local contractors. The shop is a bit cramped, but we make it work somehow. We have different types of steel sections stacked up as high as we can safely go. It gets quite loud when we are loading a truck, and sometimes the neighbors complain about the clanging sounds of the metal. But most people around Gandhi Market are used to the general noise of trade. We drink a lot of tea from the small stall across the road. The floor is concrete and always covered in a bit of grit. We do not have any fancy air conditioning, just a couple of old ceiling fans that hum. (247 words)
