Altec Fabricators

Our workshop, Altec Fabricators, is at No: 9 & 10 in the Developed Plot Estate in Thuvakudi. Being in an industrial estate means we are surrounded by other shops doing similar things. There is always the smell of welding and the sound of grinders running. The space is large enough to handle some big projects, but it always feels a bit cramped once we get the machines going. We have been in Thuvakudi for a while and have seen the estate change over the years. Our floor is concrete and usually covered in metal shavings by the end of the shift. We don't have a front desk or a receptionist. If you come by, you’ll probably find us out back with the equipment. It is a practical setup meant for getting work finished. The windows are high up and don't let in much light, so we have big lamps hanging from the ceiling. We take our lunch breaks together when things quiet down for a bit. It’s not a fancy life, but it’s what we do. People come to us when they need things built out of metal. We don't do much talking; we just look at the drawings and start cutting. The estate can get a bit muddy when it rains, but we just keep the doors open and carry on. It’s a honest day’s work for everyone here.
