Emerald Flowershop

Emerald Flowershop is located at Punna House in Orumanayur, over in the Chavakkad area of Thrissur. It’s a pretty simple setup. We spend most of our time dealing with buckets of water and piles of flowers that come in from the market. It’s a bit messy, to be honest. There are always leaves and stems on the floor that need to be swept up. We don't have a big, fancy storefront. We just work out of the house. People in the village know where we are if they need something for a wedding or just for their home. Dealing with plants in the Kerala heat can be a real challenge. You have to keep everything hydrated or it all goes to waste. We spend a lot of our mornings trimming stems and arranging things. We aren't trained designers or anything; we just know what looks decent and what people like. Sometimes we run out of certain flowers and have to make do with what is available. It is a small, local operation. We’ve been here in India for a while now. The work is physical and your hands stay dirty most of the day. We don't have a website or anything like that. People just drop by or call the house. It’s a quiet life for the most part, just us and the flowers. We just try to keep the flowers fresh and the shop running.
