Universal Tours And Travels is located in the Karthika building, right in the Chembukonam Temple Lane. It is a nice spot in Vazhottukonam, which is part of the Vattiyoorkavu area in Thiruvananthapuram. We spend most of our time looking at schedules for buses, trains, and flights. People come into the lane to ask us about the best way to get to other parts of India or even overseas. We have a couple of desks and a lot of paper maps and computer screens that we look at all day. It gets pretty busy when the holiday seasons come around, and the phone doesn't stop ringing. We are just a local travel office trying to help our neighbors get their tickets sorted out. We don't have a fancy corporate mission. We just try to find the right prices and the right timings so people don't get stuck at the station. The temple nearby means there is often music or bells ringing in the background while we work. It’s a very local feel here in Kerala. We know most of the people who walk in because they live just down the road. We drink our coffee and we work through the bookings one by one. It’s a lot of talking and a lot of checking details, but that is the travel business for you. We just keep it simple.
