About Kurinji Forest Tours – Tourism in Thiruvananthapuram
Our little office is over at No.Hsra-C67 in Kalady, right near the Godanad Kendram. It’s not a huge place, just a desk and some maps mostly. Most of our time is spent out in the trees anyway. Karamana is where we start our days. Taking people out to see the woods and the hills is what we do. It’s mostly walking and looking at plants. Instead of fancy buses, we have a couple of old vehicles that handle the dirt roads okay. Some days the weather is great, other days we get soaked, but that's just how it goes in the forest. Growing up nearby means we know the trails around here pretty well. This isn't a big fancy operation with matching uniforms. We wear what's comfortable for hiking. Usually, people call us up or just find the house in Kalady to ask about the next trip. Small groups are better so things don't get messy. The Kurinji flowers are nice when they show up, but there's plenty to see even when they aren't blooming. Just being outside and showing people the quiet spots we found over the years is enough for us. It’s dusty work and sometimes we get lost for a minute, but we always find our way back. A few extra raincoats stay in the back of the jeep just in case someone forgets theirs. The forest can be unpredictable and we've learned that the hard way over the years. We aren't scientists, we just know which paths get muddy and which ones stay dry. It is just us.
