St Thomas Residential School

St Thomas Residential School is located up in Mukkolakkal. Since it’s a residential school, the atmosphere here is a bit different than your average day school. It doesn't just shut down at four o'clock. There are always people around, whether it's the students living in the dorms or the staff who stay on site. The campus is quite green, which is nice because it gives everyone a bit of space to breathe. We have our routines down pretty solid. Breakfast happens at a certain time, then classes, then study hours in the evening. It’s a lot of management, making sure everyone is where they are supposed to be. The buildings have been around for a while, so they have a bit of character, for better or worse. Sometimes the plumbing acts up or we need to clear out some brush from the edges of the property. It’s just part of maintaining a place where people actually live. We see the kids grow up quite a bit here since they spend so much of their year with us. It’s not always easy, and there are definitely long days, especially during the rainy season when everyone is stuck inside. But we just take it one day at a time. The office handles the mail and the phone calls from parents, and the kitchen stays busy keeping everyone fed. It’s a whole little world here in Mukkolakkal, and we just keep it moving.
