Down here in Kovalam, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. We are situated right by the water, and you can usually hear the waves if you stand still for a second. Our place has been part of this coastline for a while. We have a lot of rooms and a lot of ground to cover, so the staff is always on the move. We spend a good chunk of our day just making sure the sand stays out of the common areas and that everything is working like it should. It is a big property, and managing it takes a lot of hands. We see people coming from all over the world, but we also have locals who stop by. The weather is usually warm, so we keep the fans going and the water cold. It is not always perfect; sometimes a pipe leaks or the internet acts up when the weather turns, but we fix it as fast as we can. We do not have a fancy speech about what we do. We just make the beds, cook the food, and try to be helpful when someone asks for directions to the beach. The evening time is usually the busiest when everyone comes back from their walks. We just try to keep the lights on and the atmosphere relaxed for whoever is staying with us at the moment. It takes a lot of effort to keep a place this size running smoothly every single day.
