Hotel Samudra

Hotel Samudra is located on G.V. Raja Road in the Vellar area of Kovalam. We are just a short walk away from where the road meets the coast. You can smell the salt in the air most days, and the humidity usually keeps the walls feeling a bit damp, which is just how things are near the ocean. The building isn't very tall, and it’s painted a light color to handle the sun. We have a small staff who have been here for a long time. They know where the leaks happen when it rains and which rooms get the best breeze in the evening. We don’t have a big swimming pool or a gym because the beach is right there. Most of our day is spent sweeping sand out of the lobby. It gets everywhere no matter how hard we try. The rooms have simple beds and maybe a chair or two. We don’t provide much besides a place to stay and some breakfast in the morning. People usually spend their time outside anyway. Sometimes we sit on the steps and watch the motorbikes go by on the way to the lighthouse. It’s a quiet life here most of the time, except for the peak season when the road gets packed with tourists. We just keep the rooms ready and the water tanks full. It is a basic setup for people who like the sea and don't need much else to be happy.
