This HDFC office is located at Melethil House, right in Sree Nagar. It’s house number 85, which is easy to find if you’re walking through Manakadu. Being in a residential area like this in Trivandrum makes the workday feel a bit different than being in a skyscraper. We see the neighbors walking their dogs or kids going to school while we’re dealing with banking tasks. Inside, it’s mostly desks, computers, and a lot of blue and red folders. The fan on the ceiling makes a clicking sound that we’ve all learned to ignore. We handle a lot of local accounts here. People from Manakadu P.O. area come in to talk about their savings or ask about loans. It’s not very formal; we usually just sit and talk through things. The porch outside sometimes gets crowded when there’s a rush in the morning. We have a small water cooler in the corner that everyone uses. The light in the afternoon comes through the side window and hits the files just right. Working in Sree Nagar means we can walk to the local stalls for lunch. It’s a steady job with plenty of familiar faces coming through the door. We just try to get through the day’s ledger without making too many mistakes. It’s a local branch feel, even if the name on the door is a big one. It keeps us busy enough.
