We are situated over in the Rajagiri area of Cochin, which is quite a distance from the main airport grounds if you are driving. This office for the Airports Authority of India is where a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff happens. It’s a plain building, nothing like the shiny terminals you see on TV. We have stacks of files and desks that have been here for years. The coffee machine in the corner is usually the busiest spot in the morning. People think working for the government is all about rules, and while we do follow them, it’s mostly just people trying to keep things organized. The weather in Cochin can be unpredictable, so we spend a lot of time making sure the roof doesn't leak during the monsoon. We have a small yard out front where some of the staff park their scooters. It is a steady environment, not too much excitement, but there is always something to file or a report to check. We get people coming in with questions about all sorts of things, and we do what we can to point them in the right direction. It’s not a glamorous job, but it is necessary for keeping the skies safe and the ground operations moving. We just show up, do the hours, and head home to our families in the evening. The local tea stall nearby is where we usually catch up on the news.
